As we are adjusting to our new reality, all teaching and learning will be done online. Please store the emergency folders that were sent home in a safe spot in case we need them later. Our school closure does not mean that school is not in session. Students are expected to continue their daily learning routine through distance learning and complete their daily assignments by 5:00pm. At this time, our school will be physically closed throughout the remainder of the school year.
Our class will be using Google Classroom for all assignments. I have arranged assignments by each school day. This will be updated each week. Our Google Classroom will provide one place to check-in, see the daily list of work, complete assignments, get links for online learning, get links for live check-ins, and submit assignments for grading.
While we are all working to avoid being overwhelmed, we have learned that sticking to a familiar schedule often helps reduce stress. The work that your child will be doing each day will be very familiar to them as it mimics our daily routine while in school. They should put aside at least 4 to 5 hours each weekday to focus on their assignments. There are daily deadlines, so please do not have them skip a day or else their assignment will expire and will not be counted. They can work ahead, but will not be able to complete late assignments. Deadlines are listed next to each assignment. Please remind them that I can see their online progress and times put into each online program.
This work is just like an Independent Study Agreement where it will need to be completed in order for 5th grade level credit for this school year. I fully expect each student to be working daily as they would if school were physically in session.
As always, I am available via email and through our mandatory daily Google Hangouts Meeting from 12:30pm to 1:30pm each weekday. * Links have been moved under the "Curriculum" tab and are organized by subject.
*Please check with your phone/cable company to see if they are offering free internet to students due to school closures.
